WHAT DRIVES YOU

A TRANSIT PLAN FOR OUR FUTURE

As our community evolves, so do our transit needs. In an effort to address growth and development, as well as declining ridership, we are conducting an in-depth review of RTA’s transit system through a two-year initiative called What Drives You.

Our desire is to work closely with you to develop a plan for an effective transit system redesign that improves your RTA experience. What Drives You will focus on identifying transit needs and opportunities, coupled with innovative solutions to determine which options make the most sense for our unique region. Your voice will help drive these initiatives and shape our future system.

We want everyone to have the opportunity to take ownership and be a part of our future vision.

GOALS

  • Improve service for existing and potential customers.

  • Streamline system design and operations to stabilize and increase ridership while maximizing funding and technology/opportunities.

  • Buildup the network core to make the system more frequent, accessible, reliable, simple and easy to use.

  • Create logical connections to reduce travel times, especially outside of downtown Dayton.

  • Explore other right-sized mobility options.

FAQ

What is the What Drives You campaign?

What Drives You is a project to evaluate Greater Dayton RTA’s current transit system, identify strengths and weaknesses, and develop a network for today and tomorrow. The plan is designed to address growth and development over the past several years, as well as declining ridership through an in-depth review of the transit system. We will assess existing/projected conditions while developing short- and long-range recommendations to create a more efficient and effective transit system.

Where are we at in the What Drives You campaign?

Currently, we are at the ground level of public outreach. We believe it is important to gather data and lessons learned from other agencies’ redesign projects, but we also want input from our employees, customers, stakeholders and community members to develop the What Drives You plan. We value your feedback and ideas on where RTA should go, and what sort of transportation options make sense for our growing community. Once we have collected feedback, we will analyze it along with doing an in-depth analysis of our bus routes to formulate a plan with your input in mind.

What are the goals of What Drives You?

  • Improve service for existing and potential customers.

  • Streamline system design and operations to stabilize and increase ridership while maximizing funding and technology/opportunities.

  • Build up the network core to make the system more frequent, accessible, reliable, simple and easy to use.

  • Create logical connections to reduce travel times, especially outside downtown Dayton.

  • Explore other right-sized mobility options.

What can I do to participate in the What Drives You campaign?

Online surveys and public input meetings and events will be made available to you. This will help us understand how and where the community would like to prioritize service improvements. This input will help to guide the development of the service plan to meet the needs of our region. Please take the survey, attend an event, and/or contact us to share your thoughts and ideas for how RTA’s transit network should work.

How will you use my feedback?

We want to knowWhat Drives You?  We cannot effectively design a system without input from the people who live and work here. By taking advice from those who have a deeper understanding of the community, your engagement is more likely to be an effective tool to shape RTA’s redesign. We intend to read, analyze and categorize all feedback we receive from the public and our employees while also being responsive to housing and job growth trends to ensure we’re meeting the transportation needs for the Dayton region now and into the future.

Why do a transit system redesign now?

Dayton is experiencing growth, with more residents and jobs arriving. Getting from Point A to Point B is challenging with changing development and unpredictable travel times. Some factors that indicate RTA should be considering a transit system redesign include:

  • Changing demographics

  • Population growth and shifting

  • Declining ridership

  • Growth and development

  • Improving the customer experience

How long will it take?

We project that we will have a proposal for a redesigned system sometime in 2020.
