Over the past months dramatic changes have occurred relative to state funding for transit in Ohio. In November, ODOT Director Jolene Molitoris announced a new 3-year, $150 million commitment by the Strickland Administration for Ohio’s public transit systems beginning in the current fiscal year, 2011 (ODOT’s fiscal year runs from July-June). The 21st Century Transit Partnerships Program provided funding opportunities in categories including a $25 million direct capitalized maintenance funds for urban systems including Dayton (we received $2.8 million in December), a Clean & Green bus replacement program to be competitively bid and the $10 million Innovative New Starts Program to fund new transit services providing access for Ohioans to jobs, of which Dayton was awarded $534,000. Following the election of Governor John Kasich and appointment of new ODOT Director Jerry Wray changes were announced for the existing and future programs.
