RTA Executive Director Mark Donaghy has been elected board president for the Ohio Public Transit Association (OPTA). He formerly served as vice president.

"As president of OPTA, Mark will oversee and be the spokesperson on all matters of policy and administration. He also will be involved with the upcoming state budget and advocating for OPTA’s behalf," said Judith Will Fleming, OPTA Executive Director.

"I was honored to be elected President of the Ohio Public Transit Association for the coming year," Donaghy said.

"Not since the demise of the private transit companies in the 1960's, such as Dayton's City Transit, has the outlook been so grim for our industry.  While demand for and use of transit across this country is at a 50-year high, transit systems across the nation and here in Ohio are being forced to reduce services and raise fares to maintain minimal levels of service. I see this as both an opportunity and a challenge in the year ahead," he added.

Donaghy’s priorities for the coming year include continued efforts to ensure dedicated transit funding on the state level and reauthorization of federal transit funding.

OPTA is a non-profit organization serving Ohio’s transit industry. The organization provides a variety of technical and professional services to its members and assures strong representation in the state legislature.

RTA provides more than 11 million passenger trips per year. Dayton is one of only five U.S. cities to provide electric trolley service. RTA is the only U.S. public transit agency to provide uninterrupted electric transit service for more than 120 years.
