(DAYTON, OHIO) … To ensure access for all who choose to use their right to vote, the Greater Dayton RTA will provide free rides to the polls on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 6.
The RTA understands the necessity for reliable transportation to fulfill this right. Along with transporting more than 30,000 riders daily to work, medical appointments, and daily activities, a trip to the voting polls will now be accessible to all with a free ride on all election days moving forward, beginning with the Nov. 6 election. These free rides apply to both RTA’s fixed-route and paratransit services.
“We want to remove transportation as an obstacle to citizens excising their voting right though easy access to RTA services to access polling places in the Dayton region,” said Brandon Policicchio, Chief Customer and Business Development Officer for the RTA.
The RTA has long supported the community need for accessible and reliable transportation on important days in the year, such as Thanksgiving where the RTA offers free rides to help connect people with friends, family, and the free Feast of Giving holiday meal in downtown Dayton. The addition of free rides on Election Day is another step to foster inclusion and awareness on important events in the community, Policicchio said.
RTA is Ohio’s greenest fleet, and serves over 3,000 stops on 24 routes throughout Montgomery and parts of Greene County. The agency operates diesel, hybrid diesel, and electric trolley buses that take people to work, school and shopping. Customers ride RTA on more than 9 million passenger trips each year. RTA is committed to providing the highest levels of customer service as the region’s first choice for alternative transportation.
