(DAYTON, OHIO) … The Greater Dayton RTA believes good health is the best gift to be given during the holiday season, and as such the agency is opening up Wright Stop Plaza at 4 S. Main St. to area health care providers offering free health screenings as part of RTA’s annual “Get Healthy for the Holidays” event on Dec.12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Blood pressure and blood sugar screenings will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Premier Health will offer these screenings for both the insured and uninsured. The event is free and open to the public.
RTA Employee Wellness Coordinator Stacy Shern said the agency uses the healthy resource fair so that those who visit will walk away with services and information to help them make healthy lifestyle choices.
“This year’s health fair will offer information about chronic preventable conditions such as diabetes, as well as information about new and current health services offered in the Dayton region,” Shern said. “Those who attend the event will have access to fresh fruits and vegetables, in addition to the opportunity to sample organic bottled juices. I believe awareness plays a large role in maintaining and sustaining good health.”
Screenings: Premier Health will be offering free screenings by checking blood pressure, total cholesterol and blood sugar levels. Health insurance is not required to receive these screenings.
Flu shots: Kroger Pharmacy will be on hand to administer free flu shots. Health insurance is not required to receive this shot.
Other partners at the events will be Kettering Health Network, Homefull, Five Rivers Health Centers, Santa Clara Juicery and Public Health Dayton & Montgomery County.
RTA will offer a free “Healthy Snack Prize Pack”—a goody bag packed with useful items and healthy snacks—to encourage participants to visit as many vendors as possible and learn valuable information to improve their health. “Get Healthy for the Holidays” participants will be asked to visit with and have their passport stamped by at least six partners/vendors at the event to be eligible for the prize pack.
