(DAYTON, OHIO) … The Greater Dayton RTA will temporarily close stops on Gettysburg Avenue near the Dayton Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA) due to construction beginning July 4.
This construction project will include closing down and removing the sidewalks where RTA stops are located near the entrance to the Dayton VA campus and the U.S. 35 exit ramp onto Gettysburg Avenue. During the construction, riders who use RTA Routes 8 or 24 to access the Dayton VA will not be able to board or exit at their normal stops.
The stops that will be closed during construction are:
- Gettysburg at Veterans Administration Medical Center (Stop IDs 5950 & 5945)
- Gettysburg at Ramp to US 35 (1535)
- Gettysburg at Kenesaw (1541)
The RTA is encouraging Route 8 and 24 riders who use these stops to continue to the Westown Transit Center, location off West Third Street at 122 Elmhurst Road, Dayton, and transfer to a Route 9 or 22 bus. Routes 9 and 22 stop at multiple locations at the VA Medical Center campus on Liscum Drive, on the west side of the VA grounds.
This VA Medical Center and city of Dayton construction project is expected to continue through the fall. The RTA will notify customers near completion of the project. Once the project is over, the stops at Gettysburg at Veterans Administration Medical Center (Stop IDs 5950 & 5945) will be reopened. Stops at Gettysburg at Ramp to US 35 (1535) and Gettysburg at Kenesaw (1541) will be closed permanently due to low ridership.
