(DAYTON, OHIO)… The internationally-known transit app Moovit has chosen Dayton and the Greater Dayton RTA as the 1,500th city in the world where transit riders can use the Moovit app to connect to local public transit.
Moovit is a free app available for download for iOS or Android smartphones and can also be used on a computer. Moovit will be utilizing the RTA’s real-time GPS data to allow users to track hundreds of buses across Montgomery and parts of Greene counties. This data was made available through a multi-million dollar technology upgrade the RTA completed fleet-wide in order to improve service and the transparency of that service for its customers.
According to the creators of Moovit, it is the most internationally-used tool to connect people to the buses, subways, ferries, streetcars, cable cars, trams, water taxis and other forms of public transit in 77 countries. Moovit was chosen by Google as the “Top Local App” in 2016. The Moovit app allows users to plan trips and takes reports from other users about their travel experience, such as bus congestion levels, so others have a better travel experience.
“Our goal is to provide customers with options when it comes to planning their travel. We’re excited to now be able to add Moovit to the list of available tools for our customers,” said Brandon Policicchio, Chief Customer & Business Development Officer for the RTA.
“Moovit launches in Dayton with great enthusiasm,” said Moovit Head of North America Operations Steve Swasey. “Dayton is a terrific transit-oriented city to be named #1,500 on the global Moovit map.”
“The world is on the threshold of a huge transit revolution,” says Moovit co-founder and CEO Nir Erez. “Urban mobility is at the top of the list for smart cities to be better equipped to deal with burgeoning populations in their centers.
Overall, Moovit launches in a new city every 15 hours. The next city will be Vitoria, Brazil, followed by the tourist haven of Corfu, Greece and then Tianjin, China.
For more information and assistance using the Moovit app or Moovit computer widget, a section has been added to the RTA’s website at www.iriderta.org. Find Moovit under the “RideTime and Schedules” tab.
