(DAYTON, OHIO)… The Greater Dayton RTA’s newest service will provide free, fast connections for thousands of workers and students between downtown Dayton and the University of Dayton campus with the launch of The Flyer shuttle service on November 9 at 10 a.m.

A public launch party on Courthouse Square in downtown Dayton on Friday Nov. 9 beginning at 10 a.m. will be the inaugural kickoff of the new service. The first rides on The Flyer will leave from the stop at Courthouse Square.

“It’s fast, it’s frequent, it’s free and it connects all things downtown to the University of Dayton campus and neighborhoods. The Flyer is the best way to explore all that Dayton has to offer,” RTA CEO Mark Donaghy said.

After the Friday, Nov. 9 launch, The Flyer buses will run Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to midnight.

The Flyer provides easy access to offices, local dining, nightlife, entertainment, parks, hotels, parking, and all that downtown Dayton has to offer in 10 minutes or less. Three “green fleet” hybrid buses run on a continuous loop to provide quick service, and each vehicle is trackable through RTA’s real time products, including the free Transit app available for download in the App Store or Google Play. By offering this service for free to all customers, The Flyer opens up transportation access to downtown employees and residents, students at the University of Dayton and visitors to Dayton to all the city has to offer.

The Flyer is made possible through sponsors Premier Health and CareSource, as well as a partnership with the University of Dayton, Downtown Dayton Partnership and city of Dayton.

"Premier Health is pleased to partner with other anchor employers in downtown Dayton to launch this free public service and contribute to the momentum building in the center of our city," said Mary Boosalis, president and CEO of Premier Health. "The Flyer will showcase for visitors - and even for many of us who work downtown - how much Dayton has to offer."

CareSource employees and others visiting downtown Dayton will appreciate that The Flyer will make it easy to enjoy activities the city has to offer, said Dan McCabe, Chief Administrative Officer with CareSource.”Our employees will also be able to use The Flyer to travel between our office buildings downtown, and when they park in the Dayton Transportation Center and the City Hall garage during working hours,” McCabe added.

The growth of major employers and small businesses in downtown Dayton continues, adding a need for fast and reliable public transportation in the city center.

“The Flyer is a very welcome addition to our city streets,” said Dayton City Manager Shelley Dickstein.

“This is a great opportunity for University of Dayton students, faculty and staff to explore the wonderful arts, culture and entertainment in downtown Dayton and do it in a sustainable way,” said University of Dayton President Eric F. Spina.

A public launch party will include a formal ribbon cutting to kick-off this new service, as well as routing information, hot beverages, free promotional items and a tour of one of the unique Flyer buses. All are welcome to attend.
