When the summer months begin at the Greater Dayton RTA, this signifies the annual return of the Read On RTA program.

Read On RTA aims to battle the "summer slide"- the academic backslide children can experience while they're not actively learning in the classroom during summer months. Kids of all age levels (yes, adults, too!) are encouraged to take a book and enjoy!

Beginning Monday, June 4, 2018 Read On RTA will begin distributing books for children across all five transit centers:

  • • Wright Stop Plaza, 4 S. Main St., Dayton
  • • Northwest Transit Center, 2075 Shiloh Springs Rd., Trotwood
  • • Eastown Transit Center, 1218 Falke Dr., Dayton
  • • Westown Transit Center, 122 Elmhurst Dr., Dayton
  • • South Transit Center, 2730 Lyons Dr., Miami Township

The RTA partners with literacy and learning groups across the Dayton region, including Dayton Metro Libraries, Half Priced Books in Beavercreek, Project Read through Sinclair Community College and more to collect book donations to be distributed at RTA transit centers.

The RTA also encourages employees and riders who have the means to also donate to the cause. Through the program, the RTA plans to make a difference in the lives of hundreds of children across the Greater Dayton area each summer.

The Read On RTA program also holds several events in the community, including reading days at local summer camps and non-profit organizations.

This year the Read On RTA program will also celebrate for National Summer Learning Day at Island Metro Park (address is 101 E. Helena St., Dayton) on Thursday, July 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. to promote reading and education. Partners at this event include the Dayton Police Department and Preschool Promise.
